The film Brudeferden i Hardanger ("Bridal Ride in Hardanger") is considered one of the great early Norwegian (silent) films. It was made in 1926 under the direction of the pioneer of Scandinavian cinema, Rasmus Breistein, and is considered a classic of the genre. It depicts a highly romantic Norway with heroic landscapes and a strong folkloric cast. Breistein combines the 1848 painting of the same name by Adolph Tidemand and Hans Gude, with a novel by Kristofer Janson 'Marit Skjølte', written twenty years later. The book tells a story of jealousy and betrayal during a wedding on the famous Hardangerfjord.
The film has been restored, digitized and released by the Norwegian Film Institute 'Norsk Filminstitutt' in recent years.
With their historical instruments fiddle, transverse flutes and harp they create a fitting very own sound picture. Both their interactive playing and their own compositions with archaic sounds make a performance a special experience.
