Flow is a new term, getting into the flow the highest happiness when playing. In the flow of time Maurer improvised solo material, which he condensed and "re-designed" for this instrumentation. The result is an exciting journey in the "Tonstrom" with Albrecht Maurer as helmsman. Behind the Tonstrom Quartet is a string trio with percussion and at the same time a rhythm group of bass and drums with two melody voices above. The distribution of tasks changes until string pads accompany a percussion solo. Everything seems possible here. The quartet celebrated its premiere at the Loft. The video shows a concert recording at Musiklabor Cologne.
The material of this program originated from a recording session in a studio in France, Maurer played solo - white sheet of paper, a journey to the sources of his own tonal language, personal, forgetting, searching, questioning...
The result was a collection of pieces, most of them with related source material, starting points for a wide variety of developments. In a second process, Maurer condensed this material, listened to it and turned it into a template for further compositional processes.
"For me, this way of writing is a new way of not allowing the unplayable or the overly constructed to arise in the first place, and of following the FLOW of the music." Albrecht Maurer.
In this quartet improvisations are now again conceived into it and new encounters are made possible.
